Counterblast Reblast

Marshall McLuhan’s Counterblast was published in two separate and often overlooked editions, in which he both blasted and blessed the cultural establishment and voiced his early ideas about media and acoustic space.

On the centenary anniversary of his death, a series of events, publications, and festivals both mark and reconsider McLuhan’s contributions to contemporary ideas about space, place, the media and culture.

Our book, Counterblast Reblast, is a signed, limited edition of 100 copies. It is accompanied by a video performance, which will debut in February 2011 at the transmediale.11 Festival in Berlin. Copies of the 188 page book may purchased via a posted request to this site, while they are available.

This project sets out to explore the critical purchase that can be gleaned from resituating McLuhan après les lettres. As catalyst, as point of departure, McLuhan has served as inspiration at the same time that his ideas have been challenged. Blasted and Blessed, for us McLuhan now sits in a new place.
